Wadeville Solar PV Installation Delivering 55kWp

In line with its sustainability strategy - informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - Omnia Group continues to accelerate and entrench its commitment to responsible citizenship. Aligned to this strategy and further influenced by the rapidly increasing cost of electricity, Protea Chemicals was recently nominated to lead the implementation of an affordable, clean energy solution.

The project, which kicked off on 29 August 2019, is a major step towards realising the Group’s goal of cleaner, alternate energy sources as well as reducing operational expenses. In just 10 days, Protea Chemicals installed 169 X 330 Wp polycrystalline solar panels at Omnia’s main hub located in Wadeville, Germiston. Designed to respond to the largest power requirements at the Wadeville facility, this system affords 55 kWp generation power and has an annual power generation capacity of 93 300 kWh (equivalent to a years’ worth of electricity supply for approximately nine households).

Benefits of the solar installation, include:

  1. Reduction in CO2 emissions of 58 tonnes per annum
  2. Reduction of kVA maximum demand (i.e. electricity demand from the grid in peak periods) charges
  3. Monitoring to enable the optimisation of power usage
  4. Tracking of carbon footprint reductions

This is a key achievement for Omnia in progressing its Better World ambitions and demonstrating responsible citizenship for the benefit of communities and the environment.

We would like to congratulate the following project team for a successful launch; Makhosi Dlamini (project lead for UN goals) Lourens Coetzer, Darryl McGhee (project implementers) and Dirk Swart (maintenance) and the rest of the team involved
